FOLLOW ME!

This weekend we celebrate the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings this weekend focus on discipleship and following Christ.

In the first reading from the prophet Jonah, we read how Jonah sets out into the City of Nineveh to proclaim the word of God. In the second reading from Corinthians, Paul reminds us that even as we live in this world of time, we should never lose sight of our future with the Lord. In the Gospel of Mark, we read how Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming “this is the time of fulfillment, the Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the Gospel.” Jesus calls Simon Peter and his brother Andrew to drop their fishing nets and come and follow him. Let us look at our gifts and talents and respond to the Lord’s call.

This weekend at the 9:30am Mass we welcome our new Regional Vicar, Fr. Howard Campbell.

Special thanks to all who participated in the March for Life this past Friday and for those who participated in the Holy Hour for Life. Thanks to the Woman’s Guild for providing the Box Lunches, those who gave a Free Will Offering and to Dane and Beth Summerville for making a donation to offset the cost of the transportation to Washington D.C. Let us Respect All Human Life!

On Mission for the Church Alive! As we have been hearing at Mass and reading in the Pittsburgh Catholic newspaper, the Diocese of Pittsburgh is beginning preparations for “On Mission For the Church Alive! which is a process that will change the structures, staffing, and pastoral strategies of every district in the Diocese effective October 15, 2018. (On Mission is already taking place in my home parish, Holy Apostles Parish in Baldwin, Carrick and Overbrook.) One possible parish model that is being considered by the Diocese is to have St. James partner with St. Margaret Mary in Moon, St. Joseph in Coraopolis, and St. Catherine of Siena in Crescent.

Last week I met with the area Pastors along with members of the Diocesan On Mission Commission who announced that another possible model being considered is for St. James and St. Mary Parish in Aleppo Township to be grouped together. St. Mary’s is only 4 miles from St. James and an 8 minute drive. We already share coverage of Masonic Village and are in the Quaker Valley School District. (Please note that NO DECISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE). The final model announcements with the clergy assignments will be announced on April 26 and the implementation of the new mass schedules will begin October 15. Our On Mission team members includes: Jason Corsetti, Josh DeNinno, Patty Gebhard, Mary Lu Giver, Jon Kuzma, and Donna Pavlis. Please contact myself or one of the On Mission team members if you have any comments about the possible new model being considered.

Thank you for your openness and prayers as we begin moving forward to plan for the future of our diocese.
