A Word From Fr. Tom - 02-28-16

This weekend we celebrate the Third Sunday of Lent. The readings focus on forgiveness and mercy. In the First reading from Exodus, we read how the angel of the Lord appears to Moses in fire of a flaming bush. This is a transformative event for Moses. He must never doubt God’s promises. In the Second Reading from Corinthians, Paul reminds the people to make every effort to be faithful and not to grumble like our ancestors did in the desert. In today’s Gospel of Luke, we read how the parable of the barren fig-tree. This parable, only found in Luke, is sometimes called the “Gospel of Second Chance.” It is a call for repentance, while emphasizing God’s generous mercy and forgiveness.

Who are the people in our lives that we have “cut out” of our life? Who are the people that we simply cannot forgive and reach out to? Who are the people in our lives that have cut us out of their lives because of an argument or misunderstanding? This is a wonderful time to ask for Mercy and forgiveness.

St. Joseph Memorial Candle A memorial candle has been put in place next to our new St. Joseph statue on the altar. This candle will burn during the week in loving memory of a donor’s intention. A donation of $10 is the suggested offering similar to the sanctuary candle and Marian candle. Please contact Karin at the rectory office to reserve your space. Because of space limitations we are asking a limit of one intention request per family.

You will discover the spiritual gifts that God has given you, and you will receive guidance on how to use them in the service of our parish and those in need.
