BE MADE CLEAN!

It is that time of year to make some Lenten goals and resolutions. What are you giving up for Lent? What do you want to do “extra” for the next Forty Days to become closer to Christ? What areas in your life that you want to do “differently?”

This weekend we celebrate the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings focus on reaching out to others. In the first reading from the book of Leviticus, we read how God gives the people of Israel instructions that will bring them healing and keep them safe. In the Second reading from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, he reminds us to do everything for the glory of God and be imitators of Christ. In today’s Gospel of Mark, Jesus heals a leper. He says “Be made clean!” Those who suffer from leprosy in today’s first reading and gospel were not necessarily sinners, but the illness caused them to be labeled “unclean.” Jesus not only healed the leper but he restored him to his community and family.

This week as we begin the season of Lent, let us use this time to pay attention to our ongoing conversion. Let us reach out to those who are considered an “outcast” in our society. We all want to be loved and accepted.

BE MADE CLEAN!

Parish Mission You are invited to our 2018 Parish Mission, “Unconditionally,” presented by Greg Wasinski, starting today, Sunday, February 11 through Tuesday, February 13 at 7:00pm in the Church. Greg is an Inspirational Speaker, Author and Radio Host on The Catholic Channel on Sirius XM Radio. Greg’s topics will include: “Who We Are Called to Be,” “Our Relationship & Handling Personal Crisis,” and “Finding Jesus in the Eucharist.” This will be a great way to start the Lenten Season! Join Us! If you can join us one, two, or all three nights, you will be in for a treat!

Bereavement Group If you recently lost a loved one or know someone who is going through a difficult time, there will be a Bereavement Support Group meeting this Thursday, February 15 at 7pm in the Children’s Chapel in Church. To register, please contact Sister Agnes McCormick at 412-931-2299.

Fish Fry Time! Please join us every Friday during Lent for our famous Fish Fry, 4:30 to 7:00pm. Dining is available either in the school cafeteria or the Gathering Space. Take out is also available. New to the menu this year is a shrimp basket. We will also be offering beer and wine! Also, new this year is that we will accept all major credit and debit cards.

Special thanks to our 2018 Sponsors: Tudi Mechanical Systems, 424 Walnut, Cintas, S & N Industries LLC, Wright Automotive Group, Spanos Group of Raymond James, Cervelli Ford and Café des Amis!

End-of-Year Tax Statements Please note that parishioners who contributed $100 or more in 2017 should have already received an end-of-year statement from Our Sunday Visitor envelope company. Parishioners, who contributed via online in 2017 to St. James, please contact Karin at (412) 741-6650 extension 310. Thank you for your generosity to our parish. *Please note that if you contributed to the Our Campaign for the Church Alive! fund, the Diocese will be sending out end-of-year statements separately.

A gentle reminder ... when you drop your envelope in the collection, please mark the amount of your donation on the front of the envelope so that it may be accurately recorded. PLEASE DO NOT COMBINE REGULAR OFFERTORY WITH A SECOND COLLECTION DONATION. Please use separate checks as the second collections go directly to the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Thank you for your understanding.

Little Sisters of the Poor The Little Sisters of the Poor will be visiting us next weekend at all the weekend Masses. Donations received will enable them to continue the work to care for the elderly at their home on Benton Avenue in Brighton Heights. Please be as generous as possible.

In Memory of Dominic Sebastian Special prayers for the soul of Dominic Sebastian who passed away on December 3, 2015. His estate recently gave a generous donation to St. James Parish. Please remember St. James in your will.

Welcome A special warm welcome to Leesa DiBartola, who recently registered here at St. James Parish.

Happy Birthday Happy birthday to our Music Ministries Associate, Sharron Schaefer whose birthday is today, February 11.
