BE TRANSFIGURED!

Every day when I stand at the altar to celebrate Mass here at St. James, I have the awesome privilege to look out at our congregation and straight ahead to the massive stained glass window of the Transfiguration above the Baptismal area. This beautiful window is made from handmade glass from Germany and France that shows Jesus with Peter, James and John and along the side is Moses and Elijah.

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration. The readings this weekend focus on making some positive changes in our life. In the first reading from Daniel, we read how a prophet sees a wonderful vision. A servant of God receives dominion over all the nations. This vision features divine protection for God’s faithful people. The son of man will reign over all nations. In the Gospel of Matthew, we read how Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a high mountain and he is transfigured. They hear God’s voice approving Jesus and the path to his cross and resurrection. These three disciples are traditionally with Jesus at all of the major moments of his ministry. The feast of the Transfiguration assures us of the divinity of Jesus. We are touched by the Lord every time we come to Mass. We are touched by Jesus and we are changed- transformed. The more we open ourselves to being transformed by Jesus, the more he will work in and through us.

As we come into church this week, let us reflect on how Christ can shine upon us to make some positive changes in our life. As the Summer season winds down and we prepare to get back to school, work, and the busy fall activities, let us be transformed to make some positive changes in our life.

BE TRANSFIGURED!

Alpha Due to the complexity of organizing the Alpha program that was previously announced a few weeks ago and set to begin in September for the four area parishes of St. James (Sewickley), St. Joseph (Coraopolis), St. Catherine of Siena (Crescent) and St. Margaret Mary (Moon Township), the Pastors of the four area parishes have decided to delay the launching of this eleven-week series to possibly the Spring. Stay tuned for further information.

Something to Think About… The more open you can be, the more you allow your life to change and the more you see the influence of grace. A closed mind is the barrier to living a grace-filled life. - Cheryl Richardson
