DO NOT BE AFRAID!

Every day when we pick up the newspaper, turn on the radio or TV or log on to the Internet, we read about terrorism and violence. It can sometimes be very hard to look at the positive things in life. Despite the threats and violence, there are good things going on every day that do not make the headlines.

This weekend we celebrate the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary time. The readings this weekend focus on keeping the faith. In the Gospel of Luke, we read how Jesus told his followers to cast aside fear. We are at the half way point of Jesus’ ministry as he continues his travels towards Jerusalem. This is an urgent instruction to the disciples to be prepared for their own task of preaching the Good News of the Kingdom of God. As long as believers in God’s ways exist, there is hope that love will overcome hate and good will overtake evil. Let us not have fear, but have faith!

DO NOT BE AFRAID!
