A Word From Fr. Tom - 10.22.17

In the Gospel of Matthew we read how the Pharisees and the Herodian’s attempt to entrap Jesus in a controversy over the issue of paying the annual poll tax. Jesus knows what they are up to. This is a test to try to entrap him. Jesus tells them to give the coin to Caesar and give to God what belongs to God. For a Jewish person, everything belonged to God. God’s claim is much greater than anything Caesar could demand.

God wants us to give ourselves to God. When we put God first in our lives, we make a beautiful discovery. God gives us so many gifts and blessings each day. Let us take some time out of our busy schedules to pray and keep focused on what is really important in life.

All Souls Memorial Mass An All Souls Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, November 2 at 7:00pm. Families that have lost a loved one during the past year that were buried from St. James Church or St. James Cemetery will be invited to attend a special candle service. There will be extra memorial candles to purchase for a $5.00 donation for those who wish to light a candle for their loved one.

Prayer Garden and Fish Pond Upgrade Project Blue Fox Landscape Design of Gibsonia cleaned and rebuilt our fish pond. A new waterfall now flows in the pond area. Graphics 22 of Hazelwood installed a new welcome sign near the entrance of our Prayer Garden on Walnut Street.

Donations are being accepted for these upgrades. For a $50.00 or more we are offering an commemorative brick installed on the prayer path. There is no limit now for the number of bricks that you can buy.

For a donation of $1,000 or more you can have your family name listed on the back of the welcome sign. Please make your major gift donation by October 31 so we can finalize the list of donors to be placed on the back of the sign. If you would like to purchase a brick or make a major gift in memory or in honor of a loved one, please contact our Business Manager, Terri Price at the rectory at 412-741-6650 extension 312 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
