A Word From Fr. Tom - 11.26.17

We are coming to the end of the Liturgical Calendar. A new cycle of readings begins next Sunday, December 3, the first week of Advent. As we reflect on the past year, let us use this time to ask God for repentance and start a new year refreshed and renewed.

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. The readings this weekend use images of God and Christ as shepherd and King of all creation.

The celebration of Christ the King invites us to consider what we believe about where we and the universe are ultimately headed. When we see and respond to our brother sister in need, we are also seeing and responding to Christ. We serve our king by serving each other.

On Mission For the Church Alive… As we prepare for the upcoming On Mission for the Church Alive! process please note several upcoming important dates: Catholic Parish Cemeteries Association will begin to operate St. James Cemetery effective January 18, 2018. The new Allegheny Regional Office is located in the West End section of Pittsburgh on the former Guardian Angels Parish Campus. Bishop Zubik will announce the new parish groupings and clergy assignments on April 26, 2018. New mass schedules for each grouping are to begin the week of October 15, 2018. We continue to work with our neighboring parishes: St. Joseph in Coraopolis, St. Margaret Mary in Moon Township and St. Catherine’s in Crescent to promote each others’ parish events. We already share hospital coverage throughout the week at Heritage Valley - Sewickley and the St. James Parish St. Vincent dePaul Society is now offering assistance with the needy in Coraopolis.

Gift Card Program With the Christmas shopping season now in full swing, please support your parish by participating in our gift card program. Gift cards are available before and after Mass and also during the week at the rectory office from 9:00-11:30am and 2:00-3:30pm.
