Youth Ministries

Dear Friends, Welcome to Saint James Youth Ministry where Worship, Service and Fellowship all come together as one! We have two active youth ministry programs, the “O.C.” Operation Christ Middle School Youth Group for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and our High School Ministry for teens in 9th-12th grade.

The “O.C.” offers monthly social activities with an emphasis on service to others in the community along with enhancing stewardship among all. Following the premise of Corporal Works of Mercy, our teens engage in serving others in various ways such as feeding the hunger, giving drink to the thirsty, visiting the sick and elderly, and clothing the poor. As Disciples of Christ, worship is the forefront of all of the activities, with the celebration of mass prior to the majority of our social events. Lastly, our teens have the opportunity to meet new friends and gain stronger bonds with current friends through good fellowship and faith enriched experiences.

The High School Ministry offers numerous activities and service days throughout the month. Our “Service on Saturday” in conjunction with agencies such as Habitat for Humanity Beaver County, World Vision, Sisters of Saint Joseph in Baden, Catholic Charities, Center for Hope, and McGuire Memorial Home can be a wonderful experience for our youth. We start our day with prayer and scripture readings, then travel to job site locations and spend the remainder of the day volunteering. Teens have the opportunity to insulate homes, hang dry wall, interior painting, landscaping, resort clothing items to be donated to developing countries, work with Catholic Sisters and spend a day creating crafts and playing games with children with special needs. Our service days are a great way for friends to come together to serve others.

Other high school activities offered is the Silver Ring Thing, a national event promoting abstinence among teens, monthly Teen Bible Study and LIFE TEEN, Vacation Bible School Youth Mentors Program, Faith Rally, March for Life in Washington D.C., Lovewalk for the Poor, ENCOUNTER at Saint Joseph Parish, Rosary Walk, ALIVE at FIVE, and our annual summer trip, Notre Dame Vision, a week long High School Catholic Conference at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.

Saint James Youth Ministry strive to engage, empower and strengthen faith among teens as disciples of Jesus Christ. Opportunities are provided to allow teens to better understand their gifts in order to love others and serve the Lord. We believe young people are the brokers of our future and the revival of the Church Alive!

In Christ we serve,

Maria Torchia Brown, M.Ed
